CNC Machining With Aluminium

Aluminium is a light-weight, malleable, ductile, and corrosion resistant metal. It has 1/3rd density and is easier to extrude as compared to steel. No separate surface protection is required for aluminium as oxides formed on the surface are highly stable and corrosion resistant.

Aluminium is a light-weight, malleable, ductile, and corrosion resistant metal. It has 1/3rd density and is easier to extrude as compared to steel. No separate surface protection is required for aluminium as oxides formed on the surface are highly stable and corrosion resistant. Aluminium finds its application where product must have high strength at low-weight. Aluminium alloys provide high machinability as compared to other light-weight metals like Titanium.

Application: Aerospace, construction, HVAC, durable goods, automotive, railways, marine

Advantages: Corrosion resistance, Weight saving material, excellent electrical and thermal conductivity

Disadvantages: Difficult to weld, expensive than steel

Compatible Finishing: Anodizing, Bead Blasting, Chromating, Lacquering, Painting, Powder Coating, PVC Coating, PVD Coating

Achievable Tolerance: 5 Microns in CNC Machining, 1 mm in Sheet Metal, 8-10% in Casting

DFM Recommendations: Minimum wall thickness of 2mm should be maintained for CNC Machining. Maximum thickness for Sheet Metal operation is 10mm (Recommended 8mm)
